Le Tarbouche
Exhibition
Palazzo Mocenigo, Venice
May - November 2026
Le Tarbouche, when an Accessory becomes a Symbol by Mouna Rebeiz unfolds across eight rooms of Palazzo Mocenigo's Piano Nobile, where a series of contemporary architectural interventions establish a dialogue with the palace's richly preserved eighteenth-century interiors.
Monolithic partitions lined in deep granata Rubelli fabric display the paintings, their restrained geometry contrasting with the ornate historic setting while echoing its colours and textures. Carefully positioned along key sightlines, the installation reinforces the spatial sequence of the palace. Lighting enhances the artist's characteristic chiaroscuro, creating a theatrical interplay of light and shadow.
The exhibition culminates in a cabinet space reimagined as a contemporary Wunderkammer, where a reversible intervention transforms the existing shelving into black-lined display niches for paintings and a collection of tarbouche hats. Throughout, the installation respects the historic architecture while clearly defining the temporary exhibition through a precise and reversible museographic approach.
